A presentation by Elena Dovaksantos: Since the publication of HP Blavatsky's The Secret Doctrine about 130 years ago, modern theories in science, particularly in cosmology, are starting to parallel some of the Secret Doctrine teachings. What do they reveal about the source of all existence? How does knowing this help us to understand ourselves and make a difference in our lives?

A presention by Linda Oliveira:  The word ‘dharma’ is rich and profound suggesting, among other things, an ideal state which contains within it the inherent potential for growth and evolution. We will consider the applicability of this term to the Theosophical Society when it was formed, whether the dharma of the Society may have changed since 1875, and whether it even requires a change in emphasis at this time.

Dorothy Bell explores in context of the theme of the Conference, Exploring the Why of Theosophy, it is timely to review the ‘teaching of the teachings’, the instructional methods of the late 19th century that the Society adopted in its beginnings – which were of its time and represent one model of schooling. Since that time, new ways of teaching have been developed that reflect new models of education. These centre on learning and self-empowerment more than on teaching a subject. The question arises, “Does ‘a new continent of thought’ demand a new mode of teaching?” This will be explored.

Leslie Wolf presentaion on the religion of Islam which is more than 1,400 years old, and it has had an enormous impact on world civilization. Unfortunately, most Americans have little understanding of Islam, and media coverage of the religion is almost always sensationalist and superficial. Islamic law (sharia) remains especially misunderstood, despite its great importance both for Islam and Islamic countries. This presentation will provide an overview of Islamic law and the role it plays in Islamic spirituality. There will also be some discussion of religious law and spirituality in general.
