Exploring the Mysteries of Existence

This is a 56-page booklet that explores some of the teachings presented by the Theosophical Society.

Golden Book of TS

A brief history of the Society's growth from 1875 - 1925

Adepts of the five elements

This remarkable book will e welcomed by all those interested in teh arcane and esoteric. David Anrias shows how the four elements-earth, water, air, and fire-control varying degrees the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual consciousness in all of us. He also sheds light on certain adepts who specialize in the transmutation of the effects these elements have on humanity.

Man and the Zodiac

In Astrology it has long been known that the sign of the zodiac, rising in the east at birth (the ascending sign), largely determines physical appearance. In this book David Anrias shows what each sign looks like when rising.

Cyril Scott

There is a group of books, anonymously and pseudonymously published which excited enormous interest in the 1920s and ‘30s and exerts unexpected influence now. First comes, The Initiate, Some Impressions of a Great Soul (1920), followed by The Initiate in the New World (1927) and The Initiate in the Dark Cycle (1932), all presented as “by His Pupil.”

Joan Grant

The International Theosophical History Conference ( 12 - 14 June 1992) has proven to be a most fruitful source of information on topics that hitherto have been generally ignored or only have marginally investigated. One such subject is the English novelist Joan Grant (1907-1989).

Wisdom of the Knowing Ones

Manly P Hall's Wisdom of the Knowing Ones examines the relationship of Gnostic mysticism to the inner teaching of Plat, Valentinus, Basildon, and its spiritual flowering in ancient Alexandria. If any group which shared in the Christian mystery possessed the esoteric secrets of the early Church, it was the Gnostics, preserving to the end the highest ethical and rational standards. The early…

Orders of the Quest of The Holy Grail

The legends of chivalry are veiled accounts of man’s eternal search for truth. These beautiful stories are part of an orderly tradition, unfolding through the centuries and bearing witness to a well-organized program. Like the myths of classical antiquity, the hero tales are sacred rituals belonging to secret Fraternities perpetuating the esoteric doctrines of antiquity.

Atlantis - An Interpretaton

The most famous of all accounts describing the condition of Atlantis and the causes for its destruction are to be found in the Critias and Timaeus of Plato. Most modern books dealing with the problem of Atlantis are built upon Plato’s description. The integrity and learning of this great philosopher can not easily be assailed. Had it not been for the weight of Plato’s authority, the whole…

Caglistro

Enough ill has been said of Cagliostro. I intend to speak well of him, because I think this is always preferable, providing one canm and at least I shall not bore the reader by repeating what he has already heard.

             - Baron de Gleichen: Souvenirs.

Philosophy

Selves placed, they did not know how or why? There was hardly any political life in ancient India, such as we know it from the Vedas, and in con sequence neither political strife nor municipal ambition. Neither art nor science existed as yet, to call forth the energies of this highly gifted race.

Is this Theosophy

Ernest Wood

Ernest Wood was an English educator, writer, lecturer, and Sanskrit scholar who was active in the Theosophical Society based in Adyar, Chennai, India. Dr. Wood was very active in the Society for the Promotion of National Education that was established in 1916 by Annie Besant and others.

The Christmas of he Angels by Dora Kunz

То students of the hidden side of life, Christmas is a most wonderful reality—a far greater reality than most of us think, since it involves the whole course of Nature, and not humanity alone.

Comte de St. Germain The Secret of Kings

Mrs. Cooper-Oakley's painstaking research is so well-known, and so highly appreciated among students, that it is not necessary for me to recommend her work. She has traveled far and wide over Europe, visiting famous libraries, in order to collect, with long perserverance and unwearied exertion, the materials which we read at our ease, in comfortable armchairs, with their feet on the fender. So…

Ocean of Theosophy

In the early 1890's William Q. Judge recognized the need for a literature on theosophy that could be readily understood by all. He responded with a series of newspaper articles that were soon published in book form as The Ocean of Theosophy.

From Death to Rebirth

Pekka Ervast (1875–1934; P. E.) was a pioneer of the Finnish Theosophical movement, and he lectured, wrote books and journal articles on a multitude of Theosophical topics for almost forty years. In many of his lectures and writings, he discussed life after death from multiple points of view.

Cagliostro

This ebook is a compliation of articles published in The Theosophical Path between April 1932 and 1936

yoga by Annie Besant

This anthology is a thorough introduction to classic literature for those who have not yet experienced these literary masterworks. For those who have known and loved these works in the past, this is an invitation to reunite with old friends in a fresh new format.

Theosophy for Very Little Children

The following little book is partly the outcome o£ a personal experience in this direction during a fortnight's stay with the children of a Theosophical friend whilst their mother was ill in hospital. Therefore to Molly and Jinky Scott, I owe the beginnings of thoughts which in the weaving have been pure delight and very sweetly do I salute them £or a debt which can never be paid.

Theosophy and Modern Thought

For Lectures delivered at the Thirty-ninth Annual Convention of the TheosophicaL Society, held at Adyar, Madra December 1914

The World Mother as Symbol & Fact by CW Leadbeater

THE issue of The Call of the World-Mother through the instrumentality of our great President has probably attracted but little attention outside of Theosophical circles; but it is an event of supreme importance to the world.

The Seven Veils over Consciousness

This thesis contains many statements which by their very nature cannot be proved. Nevertheless, I consider it is my most original contribution to Theosophical knowledge. I realize that very few will understand it, but I desire to put it on record as what I have thought and lived for over forty years.

The Otherside of Death by CW Leadbeater

D E A T H is a subject which cannot but be of the deepest interest to every one, since the one thing which is absolutely certain in the future biography of all men alike is that one day they must die-still more since there is hardly an(J>ne, except the very young, from whose ken death has not already removed some dearly loved one.

The Occult History of Java

THE early history of Java appears to be wrapped in mystery. From reading most of the books written in English on the subject one would infer that the Island was entirely unknown to the rest of the world until it was visited by the Chinese pilgrim Fa Hien in the year 412 A.D.

The Nature of Mysticism

THERE is a saying of the ancient Greeks that Wonders are many and nothing is more wonderful than man and this thought has been worked out in many a philosophy tp reveal to man that the highest elements of manhood are of the nature of God, while the dearest elements of the Godhead are of the nature of man.

The Memory of Past Births by C Johnston

By reading the title, The Memory of Past Births, you have already taken the first step towards remembering, for you have sowed in your mind the seed of an idea which will germinate and grow till at last, it blossoms into full knowledge.

The Inner Side of Church Worship bu G Hodson

One of the great questions of the day concerns the nature, validity, and usefulness of the Church as an institution. The whole position of the Church is being challenged by various advanced teachers and thinkers, and particularly by the members of the rising generation.

Self Culture in the light of Occultism_ by IK Taimni

MANY books have been ·written on the important subject of Self-Culture. Some of these books have been written by people whose outlook on life is coloured definitely either by materialism or religious orthodoxy, but practically all of them are based on the tacit assumption that we have to live only one life on this earth and should adopt such measures for self-improvement as will enable us to…

Pyramids and Stonehenge ebook by AP Sinnett

Two lectures delivered before The Theosophical Society, London by AP Sinnett, in  892-93 and now reprinted in 1958 in response to repeated requests arising out of modern interest in the Pyramids, Stonehenge and also Atlantis. Their value is felt to lie in the text as originally given, and no attempt has therefore been made to revise them.

The large circulation of Mme. Blavatsky's priceless works, the spread of the ideas which she spent her life in learning and teaching, the growth of the Theosophical Society which she founded, at the orders of her Master, and with the aid of her colleague, Colonel H. S. Olcott, the ever-increasing literature published by her pupils- all these form her substantial defence, the justification of…

Esoteric Writings by T Subba Row ebook

WHILST presenting this little volume to the public, we cannot but pay due tribute to the memory of one who had done such good service to the cause of Occult Science. The late lamented Mr. T. Subba Row, B.A., B.L., of the Madras University, was one of the highest Occultists of Southern India.

Ebook of Civilisation's Deadlocks and the Keys by Annie Besant

In 1909 I delivered in this hall a series of lectures entitled " The Changing World." In those lectures I tried to show that in all the great departments of human life the old methods were showing signs of being outworn: that whether you looked at Religion, at Science, at Art, or at the organisation of Society in the Western World, you found with all of them that we were coming to a point…

An Introduction to the Science of Peace

ONE of the most valuable books issued under the inspiration of Theosophy is The Science of Peace, by Bhagavan ])as, the well-known Hon. Secretary of the Central Hi:nc;lu College, Benares, and just now the General Secretary of the Theosopltical Society in India. Those who seek a lasting intellectual foundation for their thinking will find much help in this valuable and original work.

Abul Dazel and Akbar published by C Jinarajadasa

T H E chief value of this brief monograph-an a ddress delivered to the Islamic Culture Society of Madras-lies in its quotations. As a necklet of gems requires a thread to bind them, so has my enthusiasm for Abul Fazl and Akbar become as a thread on which are strung the many extracts from Abul Fazl, Badaoni and others.

Wood

It was in The Secret Doctrine of Н. P. Blavatsky that the modern world was first presented with the phrase “The Seven Rays.” It went along with a statement that all things and beings in the world—all forms of mind and matter—arose from combinations of seven fundamental impulses. It was maintained that the substance or basis of the whole world—objective and subjective—is “spiritual,” which…

Foundations

The particular task that Madame Blavatsky undertook in her writings was to bring to the attention of the western world the teachings of the Wisdom tradition, the Sacred Science of the east. Repeatedly she affirmed both the antiquity and the universality of these teachings, known since the early centuries of our era as Theosophy. For herself she claimed only the role of writer and transmitter…

Reincarnation

n Palestine, on the slopes of Mount Hermon, about forty-five miles north of the Sea of Galilee, are scattered the ruins of an ancient city, Caesarea Philippi by name. One day, while approaching the outskirts of this city—if we may trust the story of the Gospels1—the Christian Master asked His disciples a question of such far-reaching importance that, had its full meaning been understood by…

Lost Key

The likelihood of a favorable acceptance of the astounding revelation to be made in this essay will be considerably heightened if the epochal disclosure is preceded by sufficient prefatory exegesis to present it in its proper "frame of reference".

Jesus

Many years of study of Christian origins have convinced some of us that it is impossible to be absolutely certain historically of any objective fact relating to the life of Jesus as handed on by tradition. -from the Foreword How much of the New Testament gospel story is true? This is the stunning question posed-and answered-in this provocative volume, first published in 1903 and just as…

Discourses

The Discourses of Epictetus are a series of extracts of the teachings of the Stoic philosopher Epictetus written down by Arrian c. 108 AD. For centuries, Stoicism was virtually the unofficial religion of the Roman world The stress on endurance, self-restraint, and power of the will to withstand calamity can often seem coldhearted.

Education

Many of the suggestions made in this little book come from my own memories of early school life; and my own experience since of the methods used in Occult training has shown me how much happier boys' lives might be made than they usually are. I have myself experienced both the right way of teaching and the wrong way, and therefore I want to help others towards the right way.

The Messenger

This small treatise discusses the paintings and spiritual work of Russian painter Nicholas Roerich.

Simon Magus

Everybody in Christendom has heard of Simon, the magician, and how Peter, the apostle, rebuked him, as told in the narrative of the Acts of the Apostles. Many also have heard the legend of how at Rome this wicked sorcerer endeavoured to fly by aid of the demons, and how Peter caused him to fall headlong and thus miserably perish. And so most think that there is an end of the matter, and either…

Fairies

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, best known as the creator of Sherlock Holmes but also a devout spiritualist, was entirely convinced by a set of photographs seemingly showing two young girls playing with a group of tiny, translucent fairies. To demonstrate his unshakable belief in the spirit world, the celebrated writer published, in 1922.

Teachings

The Secret Teachings of All Ages is a comprehensive esoteric encyclopedia. In this book Manly P. Hall has successfully distilled the essence of more arcane subjects than one would think possible.

Forgotton

This is one of the best books about the Gnostics written prior to the Nag Hammadi discoveries. G.R.S. Mead, who also translated the Pistis Sophia, summarizes what was known about the Gnostics at the turn of the 20th century. At that time, a better picture of the Gnostics was emerging, based on several papyri which had been recently discovered.

Story

The unfinished autobiography of Rudolf Steiner, in which the context of his life with the emergence of anthroposophy is visible.

Road to self knowledge

This book is an "amplification" of the book entitled Knowledge of the Higher Worlds and Its Attainment. It consists of eight "meditations." The eight topics treated are: The Physical Body, The Etheric Body, Clairvoyant Cognition of the Elemental World, The Guardian of the Threshold, The Astral Body, The Ego Body or Thought Body, The Character of Experience in the Supersensible Worlds, and The…

Kingsland

William Kingsland (May 5, 1855 - February 6, 1936) was an English engineer, scientist, author and Theosophist. He was President of the Blavatsky Lodge in London and was present in the meetings where H. P. Blavatsky answered members' questions on The Secret Doctrine.

Activity

This book, written in 1894, is a fundamental treatment of Steiner's philosophical outlook. Together with Truth and Science and The Riddles of Philosophy it might be considered as one third of a philosophical trilogy. The emphasis of the book is not on “freedom” as ordinarily understood, but is on “freiheit” or what might be termed freeness.

Way

At the beginning of the twentieth century, he founded a spiritual movement, anthroposophy, with roots in German idealist philosophy and theosophy; other influences include Goethean science and Rosicrucianism. The first English version of ‘The Way of Initiation’ first appeared in print in 1904 as two volumes.

Glossary

The Theosophical Glossary purposes to give information on the principal Sanskrit, Pahlavi, Tibetan, Pâli, Chaldean, Persian, Scandinavian, Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Kabalistic and Gnostic words, and Occult terms generally used in Theosophical literature, and principally to be found in Isis Unveiled, Esoteric Buddhism, The Secret Doctrine, The Key to Theosophy, etc.; and in the monthly magazines,…

GdP

These are a series of talks and question and answer sessions at the Katherine Tingley Memorial Group held from 1929 through to the 1940's. Edited by Arthur L Conger.

Studies

Occultism (from the Latin occultus, meaning "hid") as presented here refers primarily to the esoteric theosophy concealed in religion and nature. In this series of articles, Blavatsky clarifies the "essential difference between theoretical and practical Occultism," and the gulf that separates harmful occult practices from the occult path of altruism.

David-Neel

An exemplary travelogue of danger and achievement by the Frenchwoman Madame Alexandra David–Neel of her 1923 expedition to Tibet, the fifth in her series of Asian travels, and her personal recounting of her journey to Lhasa, Tibet's forbidden city.

A Neel

Alexandra David-Neel was a Belgian-French explorer, spiritualist, Buddhist, anarchist and writer, most known for her visit to Lhasa, Tibet, in 1924, when it was still forbidden to foreigners.

Alice Cleather

Alice L. Cleather was a direct pupil of H. P. Blavatsky beginning in 1887. She was a member of her Esoteric Section and later the Inner Group. Follwing HPB's death, she became disillusioned with the new leadership of the Theosophical Society, and pulled away from the movement. She is best known for her writings and as the founder of the H. P. B. Library in 1917.

Aspects

Teach the people to see that life on this earth, even the happiest, is but a burden and an illusion, that it is but our own Karma, the cause producing the effect, that is our own judge, our Saviour in future lives, and the great struggle for life will soon lose its intensity.

Healing

With a forward by Dolores Krieger, Ph.D., R.N., and author of Therapeutic Touch, Dora Kunz, codeveloper of the healing method of Therapeutic Touch, presents the thoughts of physicians and other healers on the spiritual dimensions of medical treatment.

Shaikh Sharfuddin Maneri (14th century) is also known as Makhdum-ul-Mulk, or Master of the Kingdom. Born near Patna in Behar, India, he was initiated by Najibuddin Firdausi and was equally proficient in secular learning and esoteric knowledge. The present book consists of the translation of extracts from the Maktubat-i-Sadi ("The Hundred Letters," or rather essays on definite subjects), the…

Christening

From the Introduction

In the course of my teaching and lecturing in universities and other institutions, I have discovered during the past decade or more an increasing interest in the concept of karma. It comes out in discussion at the slightest provocation and indeed sometimes with no detectable provocation at all. It is not always well understood.

SD

The Secret Doctrine, when correctly studied, produces a definite change in those who study it.

Growth of the Soul

1905. A sequel to "Esoteric Buddhism." Further Theosophic research and Occult wisdom.

The Lotus Fire

The book consists of notes taken at the time of my own personal explorations in a field in which I had long been keenly interested, explorations which were fortunate enough to have the guidance of One whose discoveries in innumerable fields have constituted Him a Master of the Wisdom of Life.

Pali

The Dhammapada is probably the most popular book of the Pali Canon, with the possible exception of the Satipatthana Sutta, or the Sutta on the Turning of the Wheel of the Law (Dhamma-cakka-ppavattana Sutta). It is certainly the most frequently translated portion.

Tales

The world knows H.P. Blavatsky chiefly by her encyclopedic knowledge, her occult powers, her unique courage. This little book, composed of stories thrown off by her in her lighter moments, shows her as a vivid, graphic writer, gifted with brilliant imagination.

Letters

Nothing in all the world matters so much as the growth in each one of us of a spiritual outlook upon life. Dr. Annie Besant has defined spirituality as “the intuitive perception of Unity”. It is the perception of the trust in the utter surrender to Life which is the Shadow of God on earth, and the glad acceptance of all the changing, never ceasing events of that Life which are God in action.…

Reality

According to the highest doctrines of Occultism there is only one Ultimate Reality underlying both the manifest and unmanifest states of Being. This Reality is an Integrated State which is changeless, indivisible, without distinctions and utterly beyond human comprehension, though it can be known by direct perception by penetrating through and transcending all the levels of the "mind in the…

Few words are needed in sending this little book out into the world. It is the fifth of a series of Manuals designed to meet the public demand for a simple exposition of Theosophical teachings. Some have complained that our literature is at once too abstruse, too technical, and too expensive for the ordinary reader, and it is our hope that the present series may succeed in supplying what is a…

Dailogues

In response to the demand for further light on the Stanzas of Dzyan which form the basis of The Secret Doctrine, H. P. Blavatsky answered a variety of questions at weekly meetings of the Blavatsky Lodge of The Theosophical Society in London.

Transactions

In response to the demand for further light on the Stanzas of Dzyan which form the basis of The Secret Doctrine, H. P. Blavatsky answered a variety of questions at weekly meetings of the Blavatsky Lodge of The Theosophical Society in London. Her replies illumine many important facets of the teachings that are often difficult for students and inquirers.

Secret

This eleventh century Sanskrit text of Kshemaraja epitomizes the teaching of the Kashmir Saiva philosophy, and was meant to aid aspirants to higher consciousness who were untrained in intellectual and dialectical excercises.

Yoga

The most famous exponent, and in fact, the creator of the yogic discipline, was Patanjali, the great Indian philosopher and spiritual leader. Patanjali's Yoga-Sutras have evolved into one of the six classical schools of Indian philosophy and are the most quoted and most adopted of any yogic system. Celebrated author I. K.

esoteric christianity

Early Christianity held secrets equal to those of other great religions, says Annie Besant. Its first followers guarded them as priceless treasures. After an increasingly rigid hierarchy began to bury these truths in the early centuries A.D., they were known only to a few initiates, who communicated them privately, often in obscure language.

Illusions

The following essay is an effort towards the freeing of our consciousness from the limitation in which it habitually dwells, and which exists only by means of certain illusions that are common to all men. To encounter illusions which are universal and which are practically unanimously accepted, is a task of great difficulty; it has, therefore seemed both excusable and necessary to relate, as…

Flight

Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895-1986) rose from humble beginnings to become a leading spiritual and philosophical thinker. His works continue to influence thousands of people around the world; Joseph Campbell, Alan Watts, Eckhart Tolle and Deepak Chopra have all been indebted to him.

Awakening

This comprehensive record of Krishnamurti's teaching is an excellent, wide-ranging introduction to the great philosopher's thought. Within general discussions of conflict, fear, violence, religious experience, self-knowledge, and intelligence, Krishnamurti examines specific issues, such as the role of the teacher and tradition; the need for awareness of "cosmic consciousness"; the problem of…

First

Krishnamurti is a leading spiritual teacher of our century. In The First and Last Freedom he cuts away symbols and false associations in the search for pure truth and perfect freedom. Through discussions on suffering, fear, gossip, sex and other topics, Krishnamurti’s quest becomes the readers, an undertaking of tremendous significance.

Think

The material contained in this volume was originally presented in the form of talks to students, teachers and parents in India, but its keen penetration and lucid simplicity will be deeply meaningful to thoughtful people everywhere, of all ages, and in every walk of life.

Light

These selections present the core of Krishnamurti's teaching on meditation, taken from discussions with small groups, as well as from public talks to large audiences. His main theme is the essential need to look inward, to know ourselves, in order really to understand our own—and the world's—conflicts.

Meditations

Published in 1969.

Meditations is a short ebook by Krishnamurti about meditation. This is far from being a technical guide to meditation (for a more how-to oriented book try " Guide to Vipassana", but it describes in a more poetic way Krishnamurtis views on meditation.  From the book:

Freedom

Published in 1969 - Krishnamurti shows how people can free themselves radically and immediately from the tyranny of the expected, no matter what their age--opening the door to transforming society and their relationships.

Now the trustees of Krishnamurti’s work have gathered his very best and most illuminating writings and talks to present in one volume the truly essential ideas of this great spiritual thinker.

Future

When Krishnamurti went to India in November 1985, no one could have guessed that he was within four months of his death.

outlook

Theosophy may be described to the outside world as an intelligent theory of the universe. Yet for those who have studied it, it is not theory, but fact; for it is a definite science, capable of being studied, and its teachings are verifiable by investigation and experiment for those who are willing to take the trouble to qualify themselves for such enquiry.

Seven

Seven is one of the most important numbers in the teachings of theosophy, the wisdom-religion. It is a key by which are revealed and explained many of the mysteries of nature, for in theosophy it is taught that number and numbers underlie all the processes of creation. This numerical key of seven lies at the root of all evolution, whether physical or spiritual. It is therefore important both…

Textbook

A Textbook Of Theosophy byCharles Webster Leadbeater is the ultimate guide to Theosophy. Theosophy is thought to be a part of the broader field of esotericism, referring to wisdom that offers the individual enlightenment and salvation. The theosopher seeks to understand the mysteries of the universe and the relationships that unite the universe, humanity, and the divine.

The Inner Life

A clairvoyant, Leadbeater wrote, is simply a person who develops "the power to respond to another octave out of the stupendous gamut of possible vibrations" and so is enabled "to see more of the world..than those of more limited perception." And what a world Leadbeater describes for us in these pages---a world of Master adepts and their pupils, untapped human powers and potentials, ancient…

Social

Written in 1937 by Rohit Mehta, he discusses the need of humanity for a world where socialism is permeated by Theosophy and its lofty idealism.

Creative

Modern theosophical literature, vest and varied as it is, contains two exquisite gems of profound mysticism. They are Light on the path and the Voice of the Silence. The latter was the last gift of H.P. Blavatsky to the world, as it was published only two years before she passed away.

Inner

From the Preface:

I do not desire to convince others, but simply to radiate whatsoever of truth I have found; then others can pick it up or not as they wish. They must approach me of their own free will and not because I wish to act as a missionary to them. I do not seek to convert, much less compel, but to show others what they, too, can find within themselves.

Self-Knowledge

Self-Knowledge is a translation by Swami Nikhilananda of the sacred text, Atmabodha, composed by the 8th century philosopher and mystic of India, Sankara. Self-Knowledge sets forth the principles of Non-dualistic Vedanta: the divinity of the soul, the unity of existence, the oneness of the Godhead, and the harmony of religions.

Judge

Judge says this is an attempt to furnish the studnet with a working glossary of Sanskrit words commonly found in theosophical literacture.

Serpent Fire

Great value is to be found in this little pamphlet by Mr. Geoffrey Hodson, value in three categories. Firstly, not much information on Kundalini and its inherent awakening power has been openly given to the world, for there are infinite dangers in its misuse and misdirected development.

Angels

1929. The idea which Hodson wishes to expound upon in this booklet is that cooperation between angelic beings and men will play an important part in the development of the new race which is now appearing in the world, and that even now it is an actual possibility.
